ABOUT US

NICKY ARPESELLA

Nicky grew up in Milnerton, went to Milnerton High and qualified at Stellenbosch University in 1995. Straight after graduation, she started working at Milnerton Medi-Clinic. In 1998 she got married to Kevin Duncan and went to the UK where she worked in geriatrics and amputation units.

After returning to SA she worked again at MMC and established the practice in September 1999. The practice employs 6 physiotherapists and has additional premises in the Stodels Lifestyle Centre. In 2002 she opened a second practice in Parklands with Isabeau Neethling and Adele Strauss to accommodate our patients after discharge closer to home if necessary.

Nicky’s continuing professional development includes Soft Tissue Mobilisation, Whiplash Injuries, Dry Needling, Headaches, McConnell Strapping, Kinesiotaping, Knee and Shoulder Injuries, SIJ Dysfunction, Mulligan’s mobilisation, ICU, Paediatric and CPR workshops, Pain Management. She also attends congresses on sports injuries and developments.

Nicky has two beautiful children and lives in Sunset Beach.

Her special interest is in all things relating to backache and the spine and chronic pain. She does rehab classes for compromised back patients. She also enjoys knee and shoulder rehab, TMJ problems and Paediatrics.

MOIRA KING

Moira graduated at WITS in 1988 and worked at Jhb General Hospital from 1989 to 1990 rotating through the various ICU’s (Trauma, Medical, Surgical, Cardiac and Paediatrics). She also worked in the general wards and outpatient departments including a 3-month rotation at running the Warmbaths Hospital Physio Department.

From 1991-1993, Moira worked at the Forest Town School for Cerebral Palsy. She was involved in disabled athletics. Over the weekends and school holidays, she worked in a private respiratory practice and lectured students on Maitland Therapy.

From 1994-1997, Moira worked in a general private practice in East London.

In 1996 Moira received a Masters in Physiotherapy for her dissertation in Orthopaedic Surgery in Cerebral Palsy Children.

From 1998 to 2002 she worked in a general out-patient practice in Parow and started weekend work at Milnerton Mediclinic.

In 2003 Moira started a morning position at Nicky Arpesella. In the afternoons she works from home doing Neurodevelopmental Therapy and consulting work for the Blaauwberg Neonatal ICU.

Her special areas of interest are Paediatrics – especially Neurodevelopmental, Orthopaedics, Cervical conditions, general rehabilitation and Women’s Incontinence.

MOIRA KING

ANNELIE SWANEOPOEL

Annelie grew up in Uitenhage and graduated from Stellenbosch University in 1999. After graduation, she started working in private practices in the Northern suburbs and started working at Nicky Arpesella at the end of 2000.

Her continuing professional development includes: Dry Needling, Sports Physiotherapy 1, Soft Tissue and Neural Tissue Disorders, Lumbar and SIJ Disorders, Shoulder courses, Headaches and Neck disorders, Medico-legal Reporting, Clinical Sports Medicine Congress, CPR courses, ICU workshops and courses, Pain Management.

She has special interests in Shoulders, Orthopaedics and Polytrauma Rehabilitation, Headaches and Cervical problems, TMJ and Hand Injuries.

CHANENE PITT

Chanene grew up in Durbanville and Blaauwberg. She qualified at Stellenbosch University in 1994.

After university Chanene went abroad to the UK where she worked for 11 years in the NHS and traveled the world. In the UK she worked in specialised units such as Stroke Rehab Units, Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Liver Disease Units, ICUs, and general wards. She did extensive work in respiratory conditions. Chanene returned to SA and started working at Nicky Arpesella in 2006.

Her continuing professional development includes Kinesiotaping, Mulligans Techniques, Dry Needling, Ankle Rehab, Management of Headaches, Vestibular Rehab, CPR, Medical and Surgical Management of Acute Strokes and Advanced ICU course.

She has special interests in Respiratory conditions, Neurology, and Paediatrics.

CHANENE PITT

GINO VAN DYK

Gino graduated in 2004 at UWC and joined Nicky’s practice in 2007. He is a keen sports enthusiast and presently play club baseball and soccer, as well as a variety of social sports including action cricket and trail running.

Since 2008, he has served as the WC Sport Physio Groups’ coordinator, and have been involved in the Big Walk, Argus Cycle Tour, Two Oceans Marathon and other sporting events in some capacity.

His continuing professional development includes the Sports Physiotherapy 1 course, Strapping as well as involvement in the running of workshops and courses for the Sports Group of the South African Society of Physiotherapists.

Up until September 2012, Gino was involved part-time with the African Soccer Developments Football School and was involved with the treatment, recovery, conditioning, screening, and prevention within the high-performance programme.

Career highlights include working at the SA Games, 2006 FINA Swimming World Cup, Santo FC 2008, 2010 Street Soccer World Cup, 2006 SA Club Rugby Champs, Boland Rugby U19 and U21 and the Yellow Pages Athletics in Stellenbosch 2010.

Special interests are Sports, Orthopaedics, Functional Assessments and movement through exercise and rehabilitation.

ISABEAU NEETHLING

Isabeau graduated in 1992 at the University of Stellenbosch and worked at Tygerberg Hospital in the Neuro, Surgical, Orthopaedic and Burn Intensive Care Units as well as the general wards. Thereafter she worked in various private practices and hospitals.

In 2002 she went into partnership with Nicky Arpesella and Adele Strauss in Parklands, Table View.

Her continuing professional development includes: Kinesiotaping, Dry Needling, Whiplash Injuries, Pilates, Women’s Health and various Orthopaedic disciplines. She also has specialised in Lymphatic Drainage.

She has been the South Africa Society of Physiotherapy Private Practice representative for the Western Cape and is currently the Chairperson of the Western Cape for the society. She is currently serving as LAOSA’s treasurer.

Isabeau consults specifically for Lymph Drainage problems for the practice.

KIM NICHOLSON

Kim grew up in Cape Town and matriculated at Milnerton High School. She completed my BSc (Physiotherapy) at the University of Western Cape in 2014.

Kim completed her community service year in Umtata at the Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital. There she gained valuable experience in Paediatrics, Orthopaedics and Neuro-rehab. She also ran weekly Cerebral Palsy classes for moms and care workers and managed a gym facility for patients with spinal cord injuries.

Kim started working for Nicky Arpesella Physiotherapists part time in January 2016 and joined the Arpesella Team full time in August 2016.

Her Post-Graduate studies include; Dry needling, Kinesio-taping and Modern Clinical Pilates, Ankle Rehab. Her Special interests lie in Orthopaedics and Sports Rehab.
